The Royal Greenwhich Astronomical Observatory is one of the most popular and crowded tourist attractions in the capital city of Great Britain. It is part of Royal Museums Greenwhich. Apart from this building, we can see there National Maritime Museum, Queen's House and Cutty Shark- sailing ship. The observatory was built in 1675 by King Karol II.

Firstly, it was used for astronomical surveys, needed for navigation. In XIX century this place became famous due to Prime Meridian. Since then, people all over the world have started coming there in order to stand between Eastern and Western hemisphere and take a photo. What is very interesting is that current line of Prime Meridian is located 102 meters further. Nevertheless, number of tourists visiting this place, has not decreased.

These days, nobody conducts observations here because of light pollution. However, we can still watch lots of varied films about galaxy, stars and other planets in this observatory.

The Royal Greenwhich Observatory is opened all year round, except for some holidays, between 10-17 o'clock. Unfortunatelly, admission is paid 9,50£ (adults) or 5£ (children). After tour, it is good to spend afternoon in huge Greenwhich Park, sitting on the blanket and enjoying breathtaking scenery.

Royal Observatory in Greenwich is one of the most popular places in Great Britain  that is visited by thousands of tourists πŸ‘₯ every day. It’s situated on the hill πŸŒ… in Greenwich Park πŸŒ³ in London. We can learnπŸ’‘ how great scientists first mapped the seas and the stars here. We can also see the first telescope πŸ” and other astromical equipment in the observatory. There is also a planetarium 🌠 in Greenwich where we’re able to take a journey into space 🌌 .The observatory played a major role in the history of navigation and astrometric measurements πŸ“ were done there. In the nineteenth century, it became the most famous observatory in the world πŸŒ. The Observatory stands on the Prime Meridian 🌐 , from which the Longitude counts.

The Royal Observatory was founded in the 1670s by πŸ‘‘ King Charles II, who wanted to create the place for developing better navigation systems for the country’s sea πŸŒŠ traders and explorers. Sir Christopher Wren was one of the advisers to Charles II about setting up the Royal Observatory and designed its first building πŸŒƒ. The first public time signal in the country was broadcast from the roof of Flamisteed House in 1833.

There are also some places worth seeing πŸ˜Ž next to the Royal Observatory: the National Maritime Museum, the Queen's House 🏰 and Cutty Sark β›΅.

You can arrive by riverboat πŸš€ there or it is just 8 minutes from London Bridge by train πŸš„ .

πŸ•’ The observatory is open from 10 to 5 o’clock and the admission tickets cost πŸ’° from £4.50- child and £9.50- adult.

There are a lot of souvenir shops in Greenwich so buying a souvenir won’t be a problem πŸ‘Œ . Of course is it possible to find a place for dinner πŸ” or a drink🍹 here so spending a day in the Royal Greenwich Observatory will be a good πŸ‘ idea.
